Official Name: USHJA International Hunter Derby
2012-13 Member Event
Goals:
The USHJA High Performance Hunter Committee developed the USHJA International Hunter Derby to bring the art of
tradition and horsemanship back to the show ring stronger and better than ever. The USHJA International Hunter Derby
Series has successfully brought attention to show hunters at the international level; increased spectator, media and
sponsorship interest; and brought tradition and basic riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters.
The 2012-13 series consists of 61 Member Events held nationwide at competitions starting between June 2, 2012 and
June 1, 2013. Through participation in the Member Events, each of which offers a minimum of $10,000 in prize money,
riders qualify their horses for the 2013 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship. The 2013 Derby Championship,
offering over $100,000 in prize money, is scheduled for August 15-17, 2013, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

The first, a Classic Hunter course, and the second is a Handy Hunter course.
The courses are built to encourage and reward brilliance and daring from the
rider and true athletic ability from the horse.
The 12 highest-scoring horses from the Classic Hunter Round are invited
back for the Handy Hunter Round. The horse with the highest combined score
from both rounds is crowned the winner.
