Application Procedures
|
In the spirit of the Emerging Athletes Committee's mission to "identify and nurture talented young riders,"
USHJA approved clinicians, instructing at clinics throughout the country that are listed in the USHJA Directory
of Clinics, are currently serving as Talent Scouts. This distinguished list includes Olympians and USHJA Certified
Trainers who observe riders and recommend those suited for the EAP. Riders are notified by the USHJA office when a
Talent Scout recommendation is received and must go through the application process to be considered for the EAP.
Recommendations from Talent Scouts do not guarantee acceptance to the program, rather they serve as a tool for
identifying young riders who have the talent and ambition to excel in the EAP program and the hunter/jumper industry.
Riders who do not have the opportunity to participate in a clinic listed in the USHJA Directory of Clinics may apply to the EAP by submitting an application and three
written recommendations as outlined in the EAP Rider Eligibility Requirements listed below.
Applicants are required to take the Level One
USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, which is
available online* and must be completed by the application deadline.
Those applicants with a passing score of 80% or higher can be considered
for participation in a Regional Clinic. *The USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge is now available. You may complete the quiz after submitting your application.
Riders interested in participating in the USHJA EAP must submit the EAP Application and $50 application fee to USHJA. Three letters of
recommendation on the official EAP Recommendation Form must be sent directly to USHJA by those persons providing the recommendations.
Congratulations 2012 Emerging Athletes!

One of the letters must be from a current trainer, or a trainer who has knowledge of the rider’s abilities, describing in detail the applicant’s experience and capabilities.
The remaining two recommendations must be from adults within the hunter/jumper industry - including trainers, veterinarians or
farriers, for example - who have a working knowledge of the applicant’s riding and horsemanship abilities. One of these recommendations may be from a
USHJA Approved Talent Scout (see below).
Applications, application fees, and recommendation forms for the Regional Clinics must be received in the
USHJA office or postmarked no later than the specific deadlines for each Regional Clinic.
The EAP Committee reviews the applications shortly after each deadline and notifies riders by email of their application status no later than
one month prior to the Regional Clinic for which they have applied.
